Multilingual Learners

Each year, the EVSC has students enroll whose first language is not English and have not yet demonstrated English language proficiency. To help these students learn English, the EVSC provides English Learner Services at all grade levels.

Upon enrollment in the State of Indiana, all students complete a home language survey to determine native language. If the survey indicates a language other than English, the student then takes an English proficiency placement test that demonstrates the need for English language services. Students who qualify for English services participate in programs that are designed to help them gain academic skills and improve English proficiency so they can be successful in the classroom.

Mission

The mission of the Multilingual Learners Program in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) is to provide support and instruction in the English language, acculturation, and academic areas to English Learners (ELs) which will enable them to become successful in all school settings and in the community.
